Dignity

Tonight I was on my way home and quickly approached an elderly man. He was walked slowly pulling along a shopping cart with his pants belted tightly and pant legs pulled high. His feet sort of shuffled in large, sturdy velcro topped shoes sportin' the white tube socks. I noticed his plaid cap. He is definitely a gentleman I thought to myself. I slowly passed him. He said hello, so I turned and said hi. He began to tell me how Kol Touhy (the kosher grocery store on Touhy) seems further each week. I smiled. He looked to be in his 80's. He told me he had walked this way each week since his wife passed to purchase his Shabbos food. He missed her. Then I couldn't smile, I could only feel his sadness. He turned and walked into the store before I could swallow and say Good Shabbos.

I have to remember to bring my camera when I go out, how often do you see a gentleman sporting a plaid cap?
